Description
Madeira is actually the peak of a massive (and long extinct, thankfully) volcano that lies on the floor of the Atlantic. That means it’s an island of slopes and heights! Our Blue Line route in Funchal will take you inland and up to explore some of the island’s inner delights.
Monte is a district of Funchal that is renowned for its beautiful gardens and peaceful streets. Make sure you visit the Monte Municipal Park, where you can luxuriate in every imaginable shade of green. Built in the 19th century, this park is the highest on the island. On a hot summer’s day, it’s the perfect place to escape from the heat. The fact that Monte is 550 metres above sea level definitely helps!
Another great place to head to relax is the Monte Palace Tropical Garden. Set in 70 acres, it has an incredible collection of exotic plant life from around the world. Its central lake is home to both black and white swans!
Our Blue Line also lets you explore Funchal itself. Hop off at Praça do Povo and take a stroll along the waterfront and admire the boats. Then hop back on the bus and, if you’re feeling lucky, head for the Casino de Madeira. You might be on the Blue Line but we’d still put everything on red!
