Ever wondered what life was like in Berlin during the era of the Berlin Wall? This immersive exhibition, right next to the infamous Checkpoint Charlie, transports you into the heart of Berlin’s dark history and gives you a taste of life in the divided city.
Step back in time to an autumn day in the 1980s and find yourself in the West Berlin district of Kreuzberg. Immerse yourself in the stories, scenes and interactions that took place right next to the Berlin Wall.
From a 4-metre-high visitor platform, you’ll be amazed by the huge, to-scale panorama of day-to-day life under the shadow of the Berlin Wall. Positioned a few metres behind the wall, on the western side, you’ll gaze into East Berlin, just a stone's throw away.
Witness ordinary people moving house, children playing, punks in the street, border guards and more, and imagine how it must have felt to live in those turbulent times. Thanks to innovative lighting techniques, you'll experience an entire day in 1980s Berlin, from sunrise to sunset.
You’ll also experience the 1989 fall of the Berlin Wall through a moving photo exhibit. These images capture the before-and-after moments of the fall and the euphoria that swept across the city immediately after.
