If you’re in Haugesund for just a day, then there’s no better way to see the sights than from the top deck of a City Sightseeing bus. We’ll make sure you don’t miss a thing in this delightful Norwegian coastal town.
Chances are you’re here on a cruise, so the best place to hop on is at the cruise port. From there, we’ll take you across the river into Haugesund itself to start your day of exploring!
There are lots of great places to hop off the bus. Our first recommendation is the Visnes Mining Museum. This fascinating window into the past is situated on the site of an old copper mine, that was once one of the most important industrial sites in Norway. Did you know the copper that was used to build the Statue of Liberty was mined here? There’s even a miniature version of the statue to commemorate it!
Next up on our list of great places to hop off is the Viking Village at Alvadsnes. Alvadsnes is one of Norway’s most important Viking locations. It was here that King Harald Fairhair united Norway for the first time. Alvadsnes was an important centre of power in Viking Norway and the Viking Village is a great way to see how those legendary warriors live.
Another reminder of the area’s Viking past is the Haraldshaugen national monument, which was erected in 1872 to mark the thousandth anniversary of Norway’s unification by Harald Fairhair. If you’re in Haugesund, you just have to hop off and see it!
The Dokken Museum is also an excellent way to learn about Haugesund’s fascinating past. The town grew up on herring fishing and here, you’ll be able to learn all about what the town was like at the height of its herring fishing days!
Last but not least, hop off in town and find somewhere to have a coffee, a delicious Norwegian pastry and to take a well-deserved break!

- You can hop on and off the bus at any stop.
- First stop: Haugesund Cruise Terminal.
- Buses only operate on cruise days. Please check the calendar for availability.
- Buses run in all weather, so dress accordingly.
- Buses normally run between 10:00 and 16:00, however schedule changes may occur depending on major cruise docking/departure times.
- You will need to exchange your voucher for your hop-on hop-off ticket with the City Sightseeing staff or bus driver before or upon boarding the bus. Keep the ticket with you at all times.
- Please make sure you only board our official branded City Sightseeing buses.
- Choose between two audio guide options: In-Seat Modules and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). Borrowable headsets with adapters are available on board. Don’t forget to bring your headset for your own device if you want to use the BYOD audio guide option.
- BYOD languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Japanese, Chinese, Italian

- These events in the city may cause delays: Karmøygeddon Metal Festival (music festival in Kopervik/Haugesund region) from 30 April to 2 May, Labour Day parades and demonstrations on 1 May, Norwegian Constitution Day (major parades and city centre closures) on 17 May, Bykalas in Haugesund (music festival around Rådhusplassen) from 19–20 June, Sildajazz in Haugesund (major jazz festival) from 5–8 August, and the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund (film industry event in the town centre) from 15–21 August. Additionally, possible roadworks, infrastructure upgrades, or temporary traffic closures in Haugesund city centre throughout 2026 may also affect traffic.
