When visiting Lisbon, make sure to hop off the bus at Casa dos Bicos as you just have to explore the labyrinthine sloping streets of Alfama, which stands on a hill overlooking the mouth of the Tagus. Lisbon's oldest neighbourhood, it still has something of the atmosphere of the Muslim Lisbon of a thousand years ago. It’s a place to get lost, but before you do, make sure to visit Castelo Sao Jorge, the castle that has sat above Lisbon for nearly a thousand years. The next place you have to hop off is the Torre de Belém. This ornate tower was built as part of the city’s defences in the 16th century and today, it’s a symbol of the city. When there, make sure you take in the spectacular views over the Tagus. Our final recommended hop-off stop is on the the Oceanário de Lisboa. The Oceanário is a magnificent aquarium, which has been voted the best in the world.
