Description
Complete Art Experience in Madrid
If you want the complete Madrid art package, look no further. Our brilliant-value ticket includes admission to Madrid’s three best art museums and a hop-on hop-off bus ticket to explore the superb Spanish capital.
Prado Museum
The exceptional Prado is one of the greatest museums in the world, rubbing shoulders with the Louvre, the British Museum and the Uffizi. This is Spain’s biggest, oldest and best-loved museum. You’ll see works of art by international artists, from Botticelli to Bronzino and Monet to Matisse. However, the Spanish masters are the real stars of the show here. Highlights include Velázquez’s mysterious masterpiece, Las Meninas, and Goya’s Black Paintings, a collection of 14 bleak, sombre depictions of violence, death and insanity.
Reina Sofia Museum
Just down the road, you’ll find another of Madrid’s most revered art museums: the Reina Sofia. One of the world’s largest modern art museums, it houses a contemporary collection including Picasso, Dalí and Miró. Undoubtedly, the star of the show is Picasso’s extraordinary magnum opus, the enormous anti-war mural, Guernica. This poignant 1937 work depicts a harrowing scene from the Spanish Civil War.
Thyssen Museum
The final point in this glittering triangle is the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, or, simply, the Thyssen. This incredibly impressive collection was once owned by Baron Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza, a Dutch-born Swiss art collector. Wonder at almost 1000 works in their impressive permanent collection that spans the history of art from the 13th up until the 20th century.
