    Description

The Penn Museum, is one of Philadelphia’s lesser-known museums, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth a visit! Boasting a huge collection of more than 1 million objects, Penn Museum is one of the world’s leading museums in its field and offers a fascinating insight into human history.

Greek gods and goddesses, Roman emperors, Egyptian pharos, African kings, Chinese dragons and more await visitors as they travel between Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas. Discover the oldest cities in the Middle East in the Canaan & Ancient Israel Gallery, look an Egyptian mummy in the eye in the Egypt (Mummies) Gallery and try your hand at writing Maya glyphs in the Mexico & Central America Gallery.

Other galleries focus on the Etruscan people of central Italy, as well as the first inhabitants of North America – Native Americans. The museum also displays objects from more than 20 countries across the African continent and features the largest group of Maya stone monuments in the country. If all that’s not enough to impress you, the museum itself combines an eclectic mix of different architectural styles which provide a striking backdrop for the galleries.
