Description

The Audubon Aquarium of the Americas is consistently ranked among the top aquariums in the USA, and with interactive, family-friendly exhibits it’s easy to see why. Split between two levels, visitors are taken on a fascinating journey to discover some of the planet’s most iconic and interesting marine life.

Start your journey off in the huge 400,000-gallon Gulf of Mexico exhibit and admire the sharks, rays and turtles as they swim around a replica of an offshore oil rig. Then discover a sunken city filled with ruins and treasure at the Great Maya Reef. Walk through a 30-foot-long tunnel as tropical fish, moray eels and spiny lobster go about their daily life on the thriving coral reef.

Next you’ll head upstairs to the Amazon Rainforest where you can find piranhas and freshwater stingrays swimming under a waterfall. Climb to the top of the canopy and get a birds-eye view of the rainforest as you walk along the Tree-Top Loop. On this level you can also see the famous African Penguin colony. Look out for breeding pairs as they build their nest, and if you’re lucky, you may see one of the live feeding sessions. There are also exhibits featuring sea otters, sea horses and even a stingray touchpool. Finish your visit off at the Mississippi River Gallery. Take in views of the river itself and learn about the animals that live in its waters.
