    Description

    Tower of London

Who doesn’t love a castle? We certainly do, and one of the best in the UK is conveniently situated slap bang in the centre of London. As well as having all the usual trappings of a castle, from towers to turrets, a moat to defensive walls, the Tower of London is, in fact, much more.

Built in 1066 by William the Conqueror, the Tower has gone through many metamorphoses during its almost 1000-year history. It has been a royal palace, a secure fortress, and even a prison until 1952. If these ancient walls could talk, they would tell you some thrilling stories: imprisoned princes, executed spies and numerous sieges feature. We won’t tell you any more details now as we don’t want to spoil the incredible surprises in store for you!

One of the main attractions at the Tower of London is seeing the jaw-dropping Crown Jewels, famously boasting over 100 priceless treasures and 23,578 glittering gemstones that are still in use in today’s royal ceremonies. Among them, the Star of Africa, set at the top of the Sovereign’s sceptre, stands out as the largest clear-cut diamond in the world. And a new addition to the Tower is a room dedicated to the spectacle and pageantry of the Coronation Procession.

Not quite as valuable as a diamond, but invaluable nonetheless, are the Tower of London’s famous ravens. These magnificent creatures have been the guardians of the Tower since the reign of King Charles II, and it is believed that if they ever leave, the Tower will collapse. So, make sure you’re nice to these feathered friends!

    Hop-On Hop-Off

Of course, there are a jillion other incredible attractions in the buzzing capital, so we’ve combined your visit to the Tower of London with 24-hour access to our hop-on hop-off bus. Create your own itinerary around the city and hit the major tourist spots, from St Paul’s Cathedral to Westminster Abbey, and Piccadilly Circus to Big Ben.

On our Blue Route, kids get their own commentary and a free “London Quest” booklet! Your mini detectives will join Mia Cloo to explore London, taking part in quizzes, solving puzzles and completing the quest as they learn all about London!

And to top it all off, your fantastic-value ticket includes a cruise along the historic River Thames. You’ll sail along one of London’s most famous stretches, taking in sights such as South Bank, the London Eye, The Shard and ending at Tower Millenium Pier, which just so happens to be right next to the Tower of London! It couldn’t be more perfect.Book today with City Sightseeing!
