Description
Departing from Dublin city centre, your expert local guide will take you south on a journey into rural Ireland, sharing stories of Ireland’s fascinating history of feudal kings and Anglo-Norman conquest.
The first stop is the incredible Rock of Cashel. This site was the traditional home of the Kings of Munster, and the place where St Patrick supposedly baptised Munster’s first Christian king. Today, you can still see the 12th-century round tower and Cormac’s chapel, as well as the 13th-century cathedral. This collection of medieval buildings truly is one of the seven wonders of Ireland.
Then, it’s on to Blarney and its historic castle and the legendary Blarney Stone. A castle has stood on the site for more than 800 years, with the current building being built in 1446. Visit some of the old rooms and battlements, and, of course, the Blarney Stone itself. According to legend, kissing the stone, which isn’t easy to do, confers the kisser with the gift of the gab, the ability to speak with great eloquence and charm! And don’t miss the Poison Garden, where toxic plants such as Wolfsbane, Mandrake, Ricin, Opium and Cannabis are grown! You'll also be able to visit the Blarney Woollen Mills.
Your last stop is Cahir Castle, one of the largest and best preserved in all Ireland. Built in the 13th century, it stands in the centre of the rural town of Cahir on a small island in the River Suir. After time to explore the castle and its grounds, it’s home again to Dublin.
