    Join us for a fascinating 45-minute journey through history at New Orleans’ most well-known cemetery, St. Louis Cemetery No. 1. Get a unique insight into the city’s character and past as you are guided around the site.

    As you explore the eerily beautiful site, your expert guide will unveil the secrets that lie within the moss-draped tombs and mausoleums. They’ll also point out the graves of its most famous residents. Learn all about the lives and legacies of those buried here, from the unofficial World Champion of Chess, Paul Morph, to the American activist, Homer Plessy.

    Another highlight of the tour is the distinctive pyramid-shaped crypt erected by Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage, a possible future resident of the cemetery. You’ll also hear all about the cemetery's unusual above-ground tombs and the reasons why burials take place this way.

    St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 has been the final resting place of thousands of locals for centuries, but it continues to be used for burials today. For this reason, it’s not open to the public unless you’re booked on this tour. It’s the perfect way to gain a deeper understanding of New Orleanians and experience the city’s history, culture and architecture.

    • From 09:00 – 15:45, departing every 15 minutes. Please select your preferred time when you book.
    • Tours depart promptly so please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start time.
