Description
There are not that many buildings in the world that can be described as iconic, but the Berlin TV Tower is a true icon. At a staggering 368 meters, the TV Tower is the tallest structure in Germany. The futuristic building is instantly recognizable and is an indelible part of Berlin’s striking skyline.
Known as “Fernsehturm” in German, the statuesque TV Tower was built in 1969. And in the building’s unusual design, you can see some of the fascinations of the decade. Its slender, tapering silhouette brings to mind a 1960s space rocket, poised for takeoff. The building was originally built as a broadcasting facility (hence its name) but was also a symbol of Communist power in what was then East Germany.
