WTTC Global Summit 2019 and Beyond

From 2nd to 4th April, City Sightseeing featured as a Platinum Sponsor in the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit. The event, which was held in Seville, Spain, attracted a record number of participants. Over 1,600 delegates, speakers, and media, including the Presidents and CEOs of the largest companies in the travel industry, as well as a number of Presidents and Ministers from the most visited countries in the World, attended to contemplate the future of the sector. From the importance of social media to environmentally-friendly travel to the idea of UberAir, a wide array of topics were covered during three productive days.  As the President & CEO of WTTC Gloria Guevara announced that the Summit became “the most important Travel & Tourism event of 2019”.

The City Sightseeing brand and its international network of over 100 destinations featured alongside other key players in the industry, such as Emirates Group, Hilton Group, Expedia, Royal Caribbean, and TUI.

City Sightseeing had excellent exposure at this world-class showcase, including wonderful branding in the conference hall, a desk in the Exhibitor Area next to the auditorium, and a video on the different summit screens during the breaks. Additionally, City Sightseeing took part in a panel discussion on sustainable tourism growth and held a press conference before the closing ceremony to announce technological innovations which are sure to take the global brand to new heights.

After such a successful summit, City Sightseeing is already looking forward to the 2020 WTTC Global Summit which will take place in Puerto Rico from 21-23 April at District San Juan.

“We are delighted to bring next year’s Global Summit to the beautiful tropical Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, a welcoming and diverse destination that is attracting travelers from all over the world,” said Gloria Guevara Manzo, President and CEO of WTTC. “We’re particularly excited because the destination provides ease in traveling and doing business since Puerto Rico is a US territory yet has the allure of the Caribbean.”

This is great news for Puerto Rico, especially since the island has been tirelessly rebuilding after destructive Hurricane Maria. Today, Puerto Rico travel demand is back to pre-Maria levels and the hosting the most important event in the travel and tourism industry will only help strengthen the island’s charm.

“We’re honored to have been chosen as host destination for the upcoming World Travel and Tourism Council 2020 Global Summit. Puerto Rico is a place where rich culture and natural wonders lay the foundation for an immense bounty of one-of-a-kind experiences,” said Brad Dean, chief executive officer of Discover Puerto Rico, the island’s destination marketing organization. “We’re thriving as a destination of global importance and hosting this Summit will elevate even further our tourism offering, positively impacting the local economy. We look forward to welcoming the global tourism industry next year to discover all that Puerto Rico offers.”
