On 6th May, City Sightseeing Norwich came to the rescue to ensure Norwich City F.C. could still parade through the city in order to celebrate their achievement of reaching the Premier League. The title-winning team was set to make its way through Norwich on an open-top yellow bus. However, the bus experienced some issues leading all members to help push the bus with “We are Premier League” written across its front before hopping on the red City Sightseeing bus.
The Canaries sealed the Championship title on Sunday, 5th May, and were all set to celebrate the Sky Bet Championship promotion parade with the whole of Norwich. When the bus broke down, City Sightseeing Norwich driver, Don Grunbaum, and fellow driver Ivan Fisher, who was set to drive the decorated yellow bus, immediately thought of the spare City Sightseeing bus, which was near Norwich International Airport.
Once it was decided Norwich City F.C. would finish what was left of the parade on the City Sightseeing bus, Grunbaum jumped in the seat of his red bus, took to the wheel, and transported the victorious team to City Hall.
“So I then carried on with the parade, which wasn’t what I was expecting. It was a disappointment for Ivan, who was driving the decorated bus. I enjoyed it, I have to say it was one of the hardest drives I’ve ever done, not because of the crowds and that, but because the bus wanted to go a lot faster than we wanted to go on the parade and I was having to slow it down on the brakes all the time.”
